Homepage

INSERM (Institut National de la Santé Et de la Recherche Médicale; http://www.inserm.fr/) is a public institution with a scientific and technical vocation, under the dual auspices of the French Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Research. Inserm is the only French public organization entirely dedicated to biological, medical and public health research. Around 13,000 people (including 6000 researchers) work in Inserm's 335 research units. Two of these units are participating in EUSTROKE: the Cochin Institute and INSERM-Avenir - GIP Cyceron.

The Cochin Institute is the largest Inserm unit; it is also affiliated to the CNRS and is part of the Paris-Descartes University. The Cochin Institute (INSERM U567; CNRS UMR8104) currently consists of 46 teams in 6 scientific Departments together with a number of common facilities and technological platforms, on the same Campus as the Cochin Hospital, a major public hospital in Paris. About 600 scientists, clinicians, research assistants, post-docs and students work in the Institute. The Cochin Institute develops a multidisciplinary, basic and biomedical research activity, closely related to the clinical and teaching activities on the Campus. As a multi-disciplinary Research Centre, the Cochin Institute actively fosters collaborations between biologists working in various fields, such as Haematology and Immunology, Cell Biology and Infectious diseases, Genetics, Development and Neurobiology, Cancer and Endocrinology. Also, it strongly favors productive interactions with the clinicians of the Cochin Hospital. The Cochin Institute has invested great efforts to provide technology platforms at a level of excellence: Cell Imaging technologies (fluorescence and electron microscopy, flow cytometry), Proteomics (tandem mass spectrometry), Genomics and Transcriptomics (Affymetrix system), Transgenesis and Homologous recombination, Small animal Imaging (MRI, Ultrasonography) and Histology, Animal facilities.
