Münster University HospitalInstitute of Physiological Chemistry and Pathobiochemistry Muenster University, Germany, is internationally recognised for its research focus on vascular biology and inflammation, and extracellular matrix. This is reflected in several collaborative research centres (SFBs) in biomedicine (SFB293 Mechanisms of Inflammation: Interactions of Endothelium, Epithelium and Leukocytes; SFB492 Extracellular Matrix: Biogenesis, Assembly and Cellular Interactions; SFB629 Molecular Cell Dynamics: Subcellular and Cellular Movements; SFB656 Molecular Cardiovascular Imaging – from Mice to Men), and the recent shortlisting of this University for an Excellence Cluster in "Cell Dynamics and Disease: From Cellular Plasticity to Inflammatory and Vascular Pathologies". The Institute for Pathobiochemistry focuses on extracellular matrix and inflammation research and is located in a tight environment of biomedical institutes that include the Max-Planck Institute for Vascular Cell Biology, the Center for Molecular Biology of Inflammation (ZMBE), the Interdisciplinary Centre for Clinical Research (IZKF) and the Leibniz-Institute for Arteriosclerosis Research (LIFA), which collectively form a creative and interactive unit for cutting edge biomedical research. Pathobiochemistry, therfore, harbours or has direct access to the state-of-the-art technology and provides the academic environment necessary for optimal execution of WP4/reperfusion injury coordinated by this group, as well as contributing to WP1-2.
